Meditation is to improve inner peace, calm and clarity. 

Whether it is silent meditation or guided, the effect is the same.  Some people struggle to meditate which is where guided meditation comes in.  Guided meditation is where the meditation teacher leads the group by talking gently and helping the student to visualise a calm and peaceful place. 

After a time the initiate is able to meditate and visualise on their own without the help of being guided.
